About Me

Hi everyone and welcome to my Violin website! Teaching the violin has been a passion of mine ever since I was 18 years old and over the years, I have developed a range of methods and programs to help students of all ages and abilities achieve the best they possibly can.

Having grown up before the days of YouTube and Google, attending my weekly lesson was the only way I could learn and improve. I spent countless hours practicing fingered octaves, doms and dims only to find that my intonation was out or I’d been practicing wrong all week!

As a high school graduate, I’d have laughed if you’d said that I’d one day be a teacher.

I was adamant that I would become a doctor and was working hard to achieve this goal. As many university students do, I took on a part-time job in a charcoal chicken shop where I was paid just $6.00 per hour! It was after a grueling 9-hour shifts one Saturday that I decided to never go back!

How I got here

This was when I begun taking violin students; the money was certainly better and I actually enjoyed what I was doing. Soon, three students on a Saturday afternoon turned into 35 students over the course of a week. My interest in becoming a doctor was waning and my love of teaching was becoming something I could no longer ignore.

Fast forward to today and I am a qualified primary and secondary school teacher with no interest in doing anything other than develop new and improved ways to teach the violin to as many people who will listen.

I have established my own method for teaching, focusing on thorough technical development and the opportunity for performance and growth. Through following this method, I have helped each of my students experience outstanding results, whether through AMEB exams, obtaining scholarships or excelling at competitions both state and nationwide.

Slow And Steady

I often meet with students who are frustrated by their inability to move forward. Without a doubt, there are reasons as to why this is the case; usually rooted way back in the first few years of learning. Perhaps their bow hold is wrong or perhaps they haven’t learned to block their fingers correctly.

Adult beginners, in particular often don’t understand when their progress stagnates; again, there is always a way forward: it’s just a matter of finding the right path.

If you take the time and effort to build strong beginner technique, the sky is your limit!

Practice Makes Perfect

But it has to be the right practice. There’s no point practicing something incorrectly or using your time ineffeciently on things that won’t help you improve.

Please have a look around and if you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below; I will be more than happy to help you out!

All the best,

Marketa 😉
